My Wedding Dress Process
![]() If you guys read my first blog post about our wedding day, you would know I made quite a few alterations to my wedding dress to transform it into my dream dress! I actually took photos at all my fittings, so I thought I would do a post about the process!
The Original Dress:
Below is a photo of the original dress. I absolutely loved it! I basically just wanted the straps removed as I had always pictured wearing a strapless wedding dress. The first shop I went to said they wouldn’t recommend removing the straps as they thought it wouldn’t sit right (because of the low back). I left feeling quite disappointed and desperately started searching for another dress in a similar style. I ended up going to Alma J Bridal and telling them what I wanted, and they gave me the SAME dress to try on! I told them what the other shop had said, and she replied, “We know these dresses so well and it wouldn’t be a problem!” She made me feel very confident that they knew what they were doing. My first fitting:
At my first fitting, I tried on the dress and I tucked in the straps to try and visualise what it would look like. My bridesmaid Carla had to stand behind me and pull the dress in because it was to big. I got my measurements taken and the dress was then ordered in my size from Australia. ![]() ![]() ![]() My Second fitting:
Four months later (wedding dresses take a long time to be ordered in!) my dress arrived. Alma then started talking to me about the adjustments that were going to be made, the straps were coming off and the back bought up slightly.
My Third Fitting:
The straps had now been removed and the back had been brought up slightly! The back hadn’t been closed yet, but that was being left for my last fitting to make sure it fitted perfectly! At this fitting I felt that the train of the dress was to long (I didn’t want to trip on it haha!) so that was shortened as well.
My last fitting:
I was pretty nervous that it wouldn’t look right with the straps taken off but I was SO happy with how it turned out. I really loved the service I received at Alma J Bridal, she was clearly very talented!
The Dress on the Day: I have to say, my dress was really comfortable! It was just a zip at the back so it didn’t feel to tight. Additionally, the bodice was well fitted, so I didn’t have to worry about pulling it up throughout the day!
