The top five places to view Auckland from

I often think how blessed I am to live in a country so full of beauty. It’s no secret that I love to act like a tourist in my own country. It struck me the other day that I think I have viewed Auckland from every possible angle and I thought it was about time to put all these gems in one place!

Devonport Hills – Mount Victoria & North Head

This is hands down my favourite place to view Auckland from! It’s a great place take in amazing views of both Auckland City and Rangitoto Island. There is quite a bit of flat, open land on both hills, which makes the best picnic spots!

One Tree Hill

There may no longer have the iconic tree to view, but the view of Auckland is still amazing none the less. The 182-meter volcanic cone provides views of both Auckland harbours.

Mt Wellington

Located 10km south of the City Centre, the volcanic landmark is accessible via foot or you can drive to the top. The deep crater, with the city in the background, provides spectacular views.

Mt Eden

Known for its volcanic crater, Mount Eden is the highest natural viewing point in Auckland. It is accessible by foot from many of the surrounding streets if walking isn’t your thing you can drive straight to the top.

Rangitoto Island

Yet another incredible volcanic peak in Auckland, Rangitoto is the perfect place for an adventurous day trip. Accessible by private boat, kayaking or most commonly via ferry. There are a total of an 11 different tracks, ranging from 8 hours to 45 minutes!
