Aren’t we spoilt for choice with how many incredible walking tracks there are in Auckland? We have everything from rugged West Coast trails to coastal walks and thick forest tracks.
I am often asked what are my favourite Auckland walks so I thought I would talk about my top five ‘must do’ walks!
Te Henga Walkway
Te Henga walkway is an 8km track that starts from Bethell’s Road or Constable road (Muriwai). This is the type of walk that will take you double the time because you will want to stop and take photos at every turn! Seriously, there aren’t enough words to describe the beauty.
Mercer Bay Loop Walk
Mercer Bay Loop Walk is 1.4km and is approximately a one-hour return trip, starting from Log Race Road, just before Piha. This is another West Coast gem, with continuous rugged coastline views.
Okura Bush Walkway
Okura Bush Walkway walkway is 4.8km (one way) to Dacre Cottage or 8km to Stillwater (oneway). If you are not keen for a long walk, you can turn back at any time. You will still experience the beauty this track has to offer!
Ti Point Coastal Walkway
This is a two-hour return walk starting from Ti Point Rd. Wow, this track is not talked about enough! I had never seen a single photo of this track and it completely blew my mind with how beautiful it was. The track looks out over Omaha, with insanely cool flower fields!
Lake Wainamu Track
The Lake Wainamu Loop Track, located at Bethell’s Beach, is 4km long and takes an estimated 1.5hours to complete. You walk across black sand dunes to Lake Wainamu. From here, you can do the beautiful lake loop walk which I highly recommend! I wrote more about this walk here.
I could talk about so many more but for now, these are my top five! I would love to hear what your favourite Auckland walks are, I am always looking for more!
